The best plans to find inspiration and enjoy everything that the magical island of La Gomera offers.
naturally magical

The Magical islandLa Gomera is the second least populated island in the Canary Islands , behind El Hiero . It has only 21,000 inhabitants and also ranks sixth in terms of extension, with just 20 kilometers from north to south. However, La Gomera is considered an authentic ecological jewel due to its variety of landscapes and its prehistoric vegetation .

The nicknamed “magical island” is only 50 minutes by ferry from Tenerife and has had its own airport since 1999. Until then, not so many tourists decided to spend their holidays on La Gomera. The most famous visitor was Angela Merkel , who has been traveling to the Canary Island for several years to enjoy a quiet vacation.

Undoubtedly one of the most singular attractions of the island is the famous Gomeran whistle , an ancient form of communication that allows the islanders to communicate from ravine to ravine . The Gomero whistle has been passed down from generation to generation for centuries and is considered a Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It is truly amazing to see how the Gomeros hold real conversations whistling.

“What to see and do in La Gomera Canary islands”

Mirador Alto De Garajonay

1. Miradores/Viewpoints

La Gomera’s nature demands attention almost from the moment you step foot on it’s shores.  With steep ravines, abrupt slopes and spectacular lookouts walking through the vast network of trails gives hikers spectacular panoramic views of this striking landscape.  Whether walking, driving or taking the bus, La Gomera must be explored to the ends of each path as just around the corner there are always prized viewpoints that leave it’s visitors in awe.

2. Wild beaches

Playa Puntallana

Due to La Gomera’s circular form, there are endless beaches literally all around the magical island.  Beaches here are wild in the sense that there are no groomed, soft white sandy beaches inviting beachgoers.  Here the island’s volcanic past leaves scorching hot black sand something for the real beach enthusiast to contend with only to be rewarded with crisp clear waters that surround the island.  Other beaches are scattered with pebbles, stones or prehistoric rock making them a beachcombers paradise and a dramatic landscape that blends in perfectly with the islands seemingly impenetrable rocky cliffs looming over the majority of the coastline.

3. Hiking in La Gomera

Spend a lazy afternoon wandering the village streets dotted with charming old character homes. Although this village is past its height of success, there is something to experience while you slow down to the local pace and relax in the square indulging in one of the many local Canarian bakeries letting time pass you by.
