who we are

what is Island learning?

We are a unique language school that combines outstanding teaching with exclusive activities thanks to our island partners. Our aim is to get you speaking Spanish faster while having a fantastic learning holiday! All of our levels are divided into classes that meet the guidelines outlined in The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Our experienced native teachers bring Spanish to life with real-world connections. Your class may include learning about local gastronomy, indulging in a taste test, then visiting a site to see how traditional local products have been made with techniques preserved over time. We offer flexible learning with a choice of 1 to 1 classes, 10, 20 or 30 hours of tuition per week. Take your learning to the next level with one of our expert island partners who are specialists in their area! Add on exciting activities that will enhance and activate what you’ve learned in class. For more details about our Add-On Activities, click on Spanish + Sea & Sky or Spanish + Island Movement on the menu at the top of the home page.

Our History

Island Learning was formally established in 2020; however we’ve been around for quite some time. The school was founded as a language school in 2004 with the aim of teaching English to the local population both children and adults. Several years later we moved to our current location, which is in the heart of the town where we are privileged to be part of the historical core of San Sebastián. ‘Just a five minutes’ walk from the bay of San Sebastián and with the mountains and national park as a backdrop our school couldn’t be in a more idyllic setting.

It is here where we began teaching different languages adapting to our learners needs. Currently we offer classes in Spanish, French, German and English in partnership with our original school.  For the past several decades La Gomera has offered  it’s visitors the feeling of exploring a truly hidden gem which has in turn launched La Gomera into a tourists’ paradise giving way for the development of our Spanish courses for foreigners.

La Gomera

This tiny yet majestically rugged island is a magical place just waiting to be discovered!  La Gomera is the second smallest Island in the Canaries which are located off the north west coast of Africa. La Gomera is a circular island of volcanic origins which has left its landscape marred by its explosive past. A tour around the island will allow visitors to experience a variety of climates. At the heart of the island is the  Garaonay National Park which is a world biosphere reserve and home to the ancient laurel forest. The island is a hiker’s paradise with over 600 kilometres of magnificent trails often following in the foot steps of local shepherds. Finally there are more than 20 spectacular view points located around the island for you to discover and enjoy.
